Iran warns Gulf ports at risk amid US blockade tensions

Iran and the United States exchanged sharp warnings after Washington moved to impose a blockade on Iranian ports, escalating tensions over control of the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran’s military command condemned the move as illegal, warning that maritime security in the region would be “for everyone or for no one.” Officials said any threat to Iranian ports could put all ports in the Persian Gulf and Sea of Oman at risk.

Tehran also announced plans to maintain long-term control over the Strait of Hormuz, stating that vessels linked to its adversaries would not be allowed passage, while others could transit under Iranian regulations.

The escalation follows an ultimatum from Donald Trump demanding changes in the strait, alongside threats of severe military action. Iranian officials dismissed the blockade as ineffective but warned of serious consequences if tensions continue to rise.

The situation highlights growing risks to global energy routes, with both sides signaling that further escalation could disrupt shipping and impact international markets.
