Trump extends Iran ceasefire, maintains blockade

US President Donald Trump has announced an extension of the ceasefire with Iran, while keeping a naval blockade in place, to allow time for Tehran to prepare a “unified proposal.”

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the decision followed a request from Asim Munir and Shehbaz Sharif, who urged the United States to delay further military action to facilitate diplomatic efforts.

Trump said the US military would continue enforcing the blockade while remaining prepared for any escalation, adding that the ceasefire would remain in effect until Iran submits its proposal and discussions are concluded.

The move comes as a US delegation led by JD Vance is expected to travel to Islamabad for a second round of talks, although the visit has been delayed due to additional meetings in Washington.

An earlier round of negotiations in Pakistan ended without a breakthrough, and the initial ceasefire had been due to expire on Wednesday.
