Tim Cook exit looms as Apple plans transition

Apple is accelerating its succession plans as it prepares for the possibility that CEO Tim Cook could step down as early as next year, according to a report from the Financial Times.

The report, citing sources familiar with the matter, says Apple’s board and top executives have recently stepped up internal discussions about a leadership transition. Cook, who has led the company for more than 14 years since succeeding Steve Jobs in 2011, is reportedly considering the timeline for his departure.

John Ternus, senior vice president of hardware engineering, is seen as the leading contender to take over the top role. Despite the heightened planning, the report notes that Apple is unlikely to make any official announcement before its next earnings release in late January.
