Ukraine urges NATO to boost air defense support in Brussels talks
Ukraine’s Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal met NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Brussels on Monday, calling for additional air defense systems as Russia continues its missile and drone attacks.
Shmyhal said on Telegram that he updated Rutte on battlefield conditions and outlined Ukraine’s most urgent defense requirements, thanking him for ongoing support.
He noted that strengthening air defense remains Ukraine’s top priority. “To deter Russia’s missile and drone attacks, more air defense systems and interceptors are needed,” he said, highlighting the importance of the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) for maintaining steady supplies of ammunition and equipment.
Shmyhal added that Ukraine is continuing to align its defense sector with NATO standards and is advancing several joint projects with partner countries.
The PURL program, led by the United States and NATO, enables European and Canadian allies to fund the purchase of U.S.-made weapons for Ukraine.
