Trump says Iran deal possible soon amid escalating conflict
US President Donald Trump said a deal with Iran could be reached soon, claiming that recent developments in the US-Israel war have effectively resulted in a change in Iran’s leadership. He suggested the new leadership was more open to negotiations, raising hopes for a diplomatic breakthrough.
However, tensions remain high as Iran launched strikes on Kuwait and Saudi Arabia following attacks on its energy infrastructure, which caused power outages in parts of Tehran and nearby regions. The conflict has also spread to Lebanon, where a peacekeeper from the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon was killed and another injured in a strike.
The war has significantly escalated, with Iran restricting access through the Strait of Hormuz and targeting regional energy infrastructure, pushing global oil prices higher and raising concerns about the world economy. In response, Saudi forces intercepted incoming missiles, while Kuwait reported casualties from attacks on critical facilities.
Diplomatic efforts are ongoing, with Pakistan attempting to mediate talks between Washington and Tehran. Ishaq Dar said both sides have expressed confidence in Islamabad’s role as a facilitator, although Iranian officials remain skeptical of US intentions.
Despite talk of negotiations, military preparations continue, with additional US forces deployed to the region and contingency plans under consideration. The situation remains volatile as both diplomatic and military tracks unfold simultaneously.
