Zelensky calls on allies to end Russian oil purchases, drop sanctions ‘excuses'

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has urged Western allies to stop buying Russian oil and to refrain from “looking for excuses” to delay or avoid sanctions on Moscow.

Posting on X, Zelensky appealed to partners across Europe, the United States, the G7, and the G20 to take stronger action. “It is necessary to reduce the consumption of Russian oil, and this will definitely reduce Russia’s ability to fight,” he said.

The remarks came after U.S. President Donald Trump reiterated that Washington would only join sanctions if all NATO members agreed to do the same.

Zelensky stressed that the U.S. position should serve as a signal to those countries that “still choose supplies from Russia rather than from other partners.”
