Canada to scrap tax on US tech firms amid renewed trade talks

Canada announced Sunday it will withdraw its Digital Services Tax (DST) targeting US tech giants, aiming to revive trade negotiations with Washington after US President Donald Trump halted discussions in response to the levy.

In a government statement, Canadian Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne said the tax will be rescinded "in anticipation of a mutually beneficial comprehensive trade arrangement with the United States."

The statement added that President Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney have agreed to resume talks, with the goal of reaching a deal by July 21, 2025
