Lithuania enacts ban on cars with Russian license plates
A ban on using cars with Russian license plates came into effect in Lithuania on midnight..
Diplomats’ cars and automobiles transiting the Kaliningrad Region, Russia’s exclave on the Baltic Sea, were made an exception though.
All the other such cars were to leave the Baltic republic, otherwise the ban required their owners to have them reregistered in Lithuania.
According to Lithuania’s Customs Department, as of March 10, there remained around 50 cars with Russian license plates in the country. These cars would be seized unless they departed from the country, with their owners facing fines of 200 to 6,000 euros, the authority said.
Cars transiting the Kaliningrad Region are allowed to stay on Lithuanian soil for no more than 24 hours.
