Zelensky orders action to secure diesel supplies amid price surge
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday instructed officials to ensure stable diesel supplies as rising global oil prices, driven by the Middle East conflict, put pressure on the country’s fuel market.
Diesel prices in Ukraine have jumped nearly 25 percent since the outbreak of the US-Israeli war against Iran, raising concerns over supply for April. Zelensky held talks with Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko and Naftogaz chief Sergiy Koretsky to assess the situation.
He called for close coordination between government agencies and fuel suppliers to guarantee uninterrupted deliveries and provide clarity on possible state support.
Energy consultancy Enkorr warned that uncertainty remains for April, with suppliers delaying contracts due to volatile prices. However, another consultancy, A-95, said no shortages are expected, noting that around 40 percent of next month’s supplies have already been secured.
Ukraine remains heavily reliant on fuel imports after Russia’s invasion damaged its refining capacity, leaving it vulnerable to global energy market shocks.
