Saudi Arabia eyes stronger investment in Bangladesh ports, industry

Saudi Arabia has expressed strong interest in expanding cooperation with Bangladesh, particularly in seaport development, industrial growth and investment.

The interest was conveyed by Saudi Ambassador Abdullah Zafer H. bin Abiyah during a meeting with Industries Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir in Dhaka.

Both sides discussed enhancing maritime infrastructure, modernising the shipping sector, boosting bilateral trade and increasing investment opportunities. The talks also focused on strengthening cooperation across key industrial sectors.

The minister highlighted Bangladesh’s growing potential for foreign investment, noting that the government has created a favourable environment and is prioritising port infrastructure development. He pointed to the Matarbari Project as a major initiative where international partnership is essential for future economic expansion.

The Saudi envoy praised Bangladesh’s ongoing development efforts and expressed optimism about deeper collaboration, especially in logistics and port-related sectors.

Both sides welcomed the current state of bilateral relations and hoped further strengthening of ties through expanded economic and industrial cooperation in the coming years.
