1650 tons of Indian onions arrived in Bangladesh

The first consignment of onions from India arrived in Bangladesh on Sunday through Darshana land port in Chuadanga.

Mirza Quamrur Hasan, manager of the land port, said the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) imported 1,650 tons of onions on 42 wagons, with the consignment reaching the port at around 5:30pm.

The wagons will be unloaded at night, taken to Sirajganj and later sent to different divisions and districts.

Atier Rahman Habu, Darshana municipality mayor and general secretary of Darshana C&F Agents Association, said the government has decided to import onions to keep the market stable during the month of Ramadan.

Earlier, the commerce ministry initiated a move for importing 50,000 metric tons of onion and 20,000 metric tons of sugar through state level.
