Korea keen to create new business collaboration with Bangladesh

South Korean Ambassador to Bangladesh Park Young-sik yesterday called for bilateral cooperation and collaboration with Dhaka in new trade areas for boosting existing ties between the two counties.

He said footwear, ICT, pharmaceuticals, shipbuilding and ship- breaking, blue economy, deep-sea fishing, agriculture and agricultural machinery are the potential areas for both countries.

The envoy was speaking as the chief guest in the seminar on Investment Services by Using One Stop Service Portal, organized by Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) and Korea Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KBCCI) at a city hotel.

BIDA International and local investment promotion Executive member (Grade-1) Mohsina Yasmin was the special guest while KBCCI President Shahab Uddin Khan chaired and conducted the seminar, a Korean embassy press release said.

Park termed South Korean collaboration in the Bangladesh RMG sector has been a driving force in the development of bilateral ties between the two countries over the past fifty years.

In recent years, he said, there have been some noticeable and significant developments in diversifying areas of cooperation beyond the RMG, including the manufacturing and infrastructure.

Noting that the trade ministries of both countries are currently discussing the possibility of starting the negotiations of bilateral Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA), the envoy said, the prospective EPA would help to increase trade and investment between the two countries dramatically.

The envoy also proposed initiating a mechanism for regular discussion of the business climate twice a year.
