IMF lauds Bangladesh for proactive economic management

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has lauded Bangladesh for its proactive economic management amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Citing the IMF Deputy Managing Director (DMD) Antoinette Monsio Sayeh, Bangladesh Bank (BB) Spokesperson Mezbaul Haque said this after a meeting with IMF at the central bank headquarters in Dhaka on Sunday.

A four-member IMF delegation, including its DMD Antoinette Monsio Sayeh, had a meeting with BB senior officials. BB Governor Abdur Rouf Talukder attended the meeting.

The IMF team arrived in Dhaka on Saturday (14 January) on a five-day visit.

BB spokesman said the issues of discussion at the meeting included challenges to be faced in the upcoming monetary policy.

He said the meeting also discussed several issues including climate financing from the global lender.

The issues of capacity building faced by the government and the Bangladesh Bank were also discussed, he added.
