Mostaqur Rahman named Bangladesh Bank governor for 4 year term

The government has appointed Md Mostaqur Rahman, a fellow member of the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants, as the new governor of Bangladesh Bank for a four-year term.

A notification issued by the Financial Institutions Division under the Ministry of Finance said the appointment was made in line with Section 10(5) of the Bangladesh Bank Order, 1972 (President’s Order No. 127 of 1972).

According to the notification, Rahman’s four-year tenure will begin from the date he assumes office. He will be required to sever all professional ties with other institutions and organisations before taking up the role.

During his tenure, he will receive salary, allowances and other benefits from Bangladesh Bank as per the terms outlined in a contract to be signed with the government. Additional conditions of his appointment will also be specified in that agreement.

The order, issued in the public interest, takes effect immediately. The notification was signed by Mohammad Abraoul Hasan Majumder, Deputy Secretary of the Financial Institutions Division, by order of the President.

In a separate notice, the government also announced the cancellation of the remaining tenure of former central bank governor Dr Ahsan H Mansur.
