Bangladesh emerges as global leader in green garment industry

Bangladesh has firmly established itself as a global frontrunner in sustainable apparel manufacturing, with 68 of the world's top 100 environmentally friendly ready-made garment (RMG) factories now located in the country.

Remarkably, nine of the top 10 highest-rated LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified factories globally are based in Bangladesh, showcasing the nation’s commitment to green industrialization.

This milestone comes as four more Bangladeshi garment factories recently earned internationally recognized LEED certifications. With these additions, Bangladesh now boasts a total of 248 LEED-certified garment factories, including 105 with Platinum certification and 129 with Gold certification.

The latest factories to receive LEED certifications are:

  • Advance Attire Limited, Fukuria, Manikganj: Platinum certification with 96 points.
  • Amanat Shah Fabrics Limited (Woven Composite Unit), Pachdonan, Narsingdi: Platinum certification with 82 points.
  • Cotton Field BD Limited (Production Building), Rajnagar, Tongi, Gazipur: Platinum certification with 83 points.
  • KM Apparel Knit Private Limited, Chanpara, Uttarkhan, Dhaka: Gold certification with 62 points.

Mahmud Hasan Khan Babu, President of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), expressed his pride, stating, "We have now emerged as a global role model in green industrialization."

He emphasized that LEED certification not only reflects environmentally conscious infrastructure but also strengthens international buyers' confidence, enhancing Bangladesh’s competitiveness in the global garment market.

Industry experts agree that this accomplishment elevates Bangladesh’s RMG sector to new global standards, providing clear evidence of the country's leadership in sustainable and eco-friendly industrial development.
