Qatar, US close to finalizing defense cooperation pact

The United States and Qatar are nearing completion of a new defense cooperation agreement, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed on Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters before leaving Tel Aviv for Doha, Rubio said:
“We have a close partnership with Qatar. We’ve been working on an enhanced defense cooperation agreement, and we’re on the verge of finalizing it.”
Rubio also highlighted Qatar’s role as a mediator in efforts to secure a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. “We’re going to ask Qatar to continue the work it has already been doing,” he noted.
His comments came just a day after an emergency Arab-Islamic summit in Doha, which condemned Israel’s recent strike on Hamas negotiators in the Qatari capital and expressed solidarity with Qatar.
