Bangladesh's overseas employment rises 11.8% in 2025

In 2025, the total number of migrant workers rose to 11.3 lakh from 10.1 lakh, marking a sharp 11.8% increase from the previous year. 

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia has remained the largest destination for Bangladeshi migrant workers since 2017, accounting for more than two-thirds of the country's total overseas employment.

Saudi Arabia currently hosts 7.55 lakh Bangladeshi workers, which represents a commanding 66.7% share of the total overseas workforce. Qatar follows as the second-largest destination, employing 1.08 lakh individuals and accounting for 9.5% of the total share.

In Southeast Asia, Singapore remains a vital market for Bangladeshi professionals and laborers, with 0.70 lakh workers making up 6.2% of the total. Other notable destinations include Kuwait, which hosts 0.43 lakh workers (3.8%), and the Maldives, with 0.40 lakh workers (3.6%).

The data also reveals a smaller presence in the United Arab Emirates, where 0.14 lakh workers represent just 1.2% of the total share. Meanwhile, approximately 1.02 lakh workers, or 9.0% of the total overseas workforce, are employed in various other countries across the globe.
