China's Q3 growth slows to one-year low at 4.8%

China’s economy grew 4.8 percent in the third quarter of 2025, the slowest pace in a year, according to official data released Monday. The figure matched analysts’ forecasts and came as Beijing’s top leaders convened to discuss long-term economic strategies amid weak domestic demand and ongoing trade tensions with the United States.

The July–September growth rate fell from 5.2 percent in the previous quarter, underscoring China’s struggle to sustain a post-pandemic recovery. Retail sales growth slowed to 3 percent in September — the weakest since November — reflecting continued consumer caution.

However, there were signs of resilience in the industrial sector, where production jumped 6.5 percent year-on-year, beating expectations of a 5 percent rise.

“The national economy withstood pressure and continued to maintain steady progress,” the National Bureau of Statistics said, stressing that the fundamentals of long-term stability remain intact despite short-term headwinds.
