Commerce adviser: Stable supply chain key to effective market management

Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin has underscored that uninterrupted supply of goods is fundamental to ensuring smooth market management and price stability.
Speaking as chief guest at the closing ceremony of a two-day international conference on “Future of Business: Innovation, Technology and Sustainable Development” organized by the Bureau of Business Research of Chittagong University at Hotel Radisson Blu, he credited the government’s coordinated efforts during Ramadan for keeping supply chains steady and essential commodity prices under control.
The adviser acknowledged the ongoing challenge of raw material shortages in local production but said students could play a role in overcoming this gap by acquiring agriculture-based knowledge and applying it to increase output.
Reflecting on the post-uprising economic situation, he said stabilizing the market was initially difficult as several members of so-called syndicates fled abroad. “Through collective efforts, we were able to overcome that situation,” he noted.
Sheikh Bashir Uddin added that if future governments adopt a democratic approach to market management, introduce neutral reforms, and ensure coordination, the market system will be strengthened and resources distributed more equitably.
The event concluded with the adviser presenting crests to individuals and institutions in recognition of their special contributions to business and commerce.
