New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has won a landslide victory in the country's general election. With 87% of the vote counted_ Ardern s Labour Party had 49% support and she is projected to win a rare outright parliamentary majority. heading to its biggest share of the vote since the 1930s -- after a huge swing to the left in many urban and provincial electorates. The opposition National Party slumped to 27%_ its worst showing since 2002. has admitted defeat in Saturday's poll. Over the next three years there is much work to do_ she told supporters Saturday night in Auckland.  We will build back better from the Covid crisis. We have the mandate to accelerate our response and our recovery. The vote was originally due to be in September_ but was postponed by a month after a renewed Covid-19 outbreak. The polls opened at 09:00 local time (20:00 GMT Friday) and closed at 19:00. More than a million people had already voted in early polling which opened up on 3 October.
