Junta Regime sacks 120 striking staff from state-run broadcast service
Myanmar s military junta has dismissed around 120 staff from the Ministry of Information who refused to work under them and have joined the civil disobedience movement (CDM).
The regime notified the striking civil servants from Myanmar Radio and Television (MRTV)_ which is controlled by the ministry_ of the dismissals in Yangon_ Naypyitaw and various states.
The staff stopped working on Feb. 8_ saying they would only work under a democratically elected government.
Government employees_ including doctors_ nurses_ teachers_ railway workers_ engineers_ garbage collectors_ electricity workers_ administrative staff_ bankers and ministerial staff_ have joined the CDM since early February.
Frustrated by the collective resistance that has paralyzed government mechanisms for over a month_ the regime has attempted to intimidate striking workers by firing weapons during nighttime patrols of residential areas_ detentions_ suspension of staff_ evictions from government housing and other actions.
However_ the growing threats have failed to stop the strikes.
